After obtaining his degrees at Concordia University (B.A.) and Bishop's University (M.Ed) in Quebec, he taught in elementary and secondary school in Ontario for 17 years, teaching at every grade level. In 1990 he obtained his Master's of Education and in 1998 he went into Administration for 8 years.
He left his position as a school principal in 2007 to pursue doctoral studies at the University of Toronto (OISE) where he focused on the brain research behind motivation and using cognitive-kinesthetics as a tool for academic and social development. At the same time he launched the Literacy Through Drama Project, which focused on helping teachers use drama to differentiate instruction. This later became KEEN Differentiated Learning. These initiatives have introduced his learning methods to more than 50 000 students and teachers in the Toronto area.
In 2011 he developed KEEN 5X, a series of cognitive-kinesthetic learning strategies designed to help struggling learners and began work on Helping Boys Learn a series of books and online tools to support parents and teachers in helping boys achieve their learning potential at school and home.
He is well known for his entertaining and inspiring presentations and will be on tour across Canada and the U.S. in 2013-14 to share his approach with educators, parents and community organizations. Please consult his presentation resume for more information on his speaking.
